Public Transport to the Grand-massif?

Hello!

I'm living in Geneva until may and would like to be able to go skiing regularly of a weekend. I was wondering if there was an affordable way of getting to the area? Or even if there were other skiing destinations with cheap transport routes and reasonably priced season passes? Any suggestion would be a big help!

I believe gare routiere has buses to go there.

If you want a cheap and near destination, go to monts jura, just 10km north of CERN

You may try this little known website:

www.google.com

You will get a little window at the center of the page where you can enter the words

"grand massif public transportation"You will get a list of what are called web sites. If you go to those pages, and you will find there are quite a few, they will provide you with information on the schedules and prices for transportation to the Grand Massif resorts.

It is commonly called a "google search" Undecided

Sorry if you detect a bit of sarcasm, but I just wonder why people don't take that simple step first.

As for nearby ski resorts, there are quite a number within a one hour drive from Geneva, mostly on the French Alps, and even more within a 2 hour drive. Again, do a google search. Sites like j2ski.com will give you a snow report, information on public transportation to each of them, etc

https://www.j2ski.com/ski_resorts/Airports/Geneva.html

goski.com lists resorts by distance from Geneva:

http://www.goski.co.uk/airports/switzerland/geneva/index.htm

Finally, use Glocals to find others who would be willing to give you rides or else go in a group with you using public transportation.

I already searched google prior to this post and was unable to find "affordable" public transportation to my preferred skiing destination.

I don't know if you realise but the price of a season ski pass is a lot of money for a 21 year old so as such I would like to take a few extra precautions than just doing a simple "google search"

It may not seem like it to you but asking a group of local residents on a skiing section of a forum whether they have any information that google may not provide doesn't seem to unreasonable to me but if being patronising and trying to belittle people is fun for you then I'm glad I've made you feel better.

For transport:

- the Geneva International Ski Club Geneva goes out skiing almost every week, and I believe they provide bus rides at partially subsidized prices.

- try to arrange a car pool with friends. You can try via glocals: just post something on the 'things to do' section

For ski passes:

- www.buyclub.ch (the sister site of glocals). This week on BuyClub there are daily passes to grand massif, valid all season, at 40% off

Enjoy the slopes!

try these guys.

http://www.sat-autocars.com/accueil.aspx

They leave from gare routière in Annemasse, and from the moillesulaz border. At the border, they have no bus stop with a sign, they just stop (big orange bus) at the Crédit Agricole bank which is on the French side.

I think you have to sign up with them first so you might want to give them a call.
