Zermatt
WOW the ski season is almost over :( and I still haven't tried Zermatt. My wife and I started skiing this season and we've been exploring the ski resorts in Switzerland and now its time for the Zermatt and the Matterhorn (not really ski down the Matterhorn :D)

Anyway since we are begineers and are still on the blue runs can anybody advise if Zermatt is a good place for begineers (nice long and wide blue runs)?

Many thanks

Hi Naza,

Zermatt is a good place for beginners (and for experts). There are some wide blue runs indeed.

Do you guys ski or snow-board?

Nir

Hi,

we ski.... or try :)

I was looking at the pistes on the online map and had some difficulty understanding which blue runs to go for. Any ideas?

thanks

Why not go skiing with Glocal members in Zermatt this Friday, Legal Kitty

***

A winter wonder land, horse-drawn sleighs and carriages - Where else but in Zermatt

Join the adventurous Imeli and Legalkitty for a ski-outing in Zermatt during the long Easter weekend, on Friday, March 21st.

Imeli is in Geneva and Legalkitty in Lausanne

Let us know if you have space in your car – if not we plan on taking a train early in the morning and be dazzled by the beautiful vista.

hi

zermatt is ideal for anyone and all skills. you might not want to take the tracks which are close to the town, as they are usually difficult. they melt through the day and freeze during the day, not a good mixture for beginners. if you have enough time and get up before 11 so go to italy once, it is easy tracks and good food.

in the evenings you should explore zermatt. no excuses. i am going to zermatt at least a week every year since ten years or more.

musts:

bar/lounge:

1. the omnia lounge. incredible. best in town. cool, easy, beautifull

2. hotel post with several bars. young, boozy

3. vernissage, young, fun

4. chämi bar, intimate

5. hotel alpenhof bar, upmarket

eating out:

1. alpenhof, 15 gault millau points but worth 16-17, expensive

2. restaurant stockhorn. good meat, average price

3. pizzeria in hotel post. average costs

4. gitane, good meat, average.

5. don't miss vrony's, it is on the tracks on the swiss side. incredibly cosy.

have fun.

THANKS! this reply was just in time because we are going tomorrow!!!! I'll definitely check out some of those bars.

As for skiing we've booked a lesson for 1/2 day and from the description we should be skiing in Trockener Steg. I'll then ask the instructor for more runs to try out and I'll definitely try to hop over the border to Italy

Once again thanks!

Hi,

Myself and my husband are going to Zermatt for 2 days at Christmas.  We usually ski the blue runs at Les Gets/Morzine.  This will be our second season skiing.

Could anyone please recommend some suitable blue runs in Zermatt?  It will be beginning of the season for us so I don't want to end up on blues that are more like reds.  I could maybe talked onto an easy red run.  We are happy to do the same run over and over, so just need 2-4 runs that we can find on our own easily.

Advice for half day skiing Zermatt this weekend.  We will have a half day arriving Saturday and will need to rent equipment too (any suggestions?) and maybe a few runs or at least time for some fun on Sunday morning before getting back to Geneva.  We are staying close to the bahnhof train station where you catch the Glacier Express. thanks
