You know what else I was wondering - are there any smaller races from now to sept 28 that could be done to get our practice in?  I saw when I registered for the marathon that they listed other events you could also sign up for but there were so many and they didn't all say exactly where they were or the distance.  I googled a couple and those happened to not be close by.  Has anyone already done this research?

There is a magazine with all the race in switzerland: swiss runner, no clue where to find it. I had it in my mail box at the office. But I can bring it satruday and you can have a look. In May there is la course du Canton some 10km every wednesday. I am doing this one. I can also keep you posted when I got aware of any run closed to Geneva.

Thanks, Claire!  And what do you know, I googled it and their website is swissrunners.ch!

Of course, it's in french and german so I will try to read it (very slowly) over the weekend.  And please do keep us posted on races in the area!

Hi Mirella and others,

There are several courses in and around Geneva, have a look at the Website http://www.courir-ge.ch/

In the beginning of each year, Migros publishes a booklet with all courses in Switzerland. It is available for free at the larger Migros shops. Most of the stock must be gone by now, but there are probably copies at the Migros sportshop SportXX.

Cheers, Bert

I just got this from my work this morning.  What's funny is that I remember them 1st sending this last month and I thought, yeah right!  Not because of the cause.  Obviously AIDS is a cause to be supported.  But thinking, why would I ever walk, much less run in a race.  Oh how things change in one month!

Hi everyone,
Here is a great opportunity to contribute to the community in which we live - and to be healthy. 10 km of running or 5 km/8km of walking or Nordic walking - to benefit Sida Genève, our local AIDS community group. You run/walk with your age group, same sex - with an electronic chip in your shoe that measures how you do. We could also form relay teams that run 7 km each. Let's show we care locally as well as globally! May 3rd at Meinier.

OMG, Helen! Thank u so much for organizing this! This was my 1st time with the group. My goal last week was to jog 8 miles on Sat. I only made it to 6. But with the group's motivation, I made it 9 miles today! THANK YOU!!! For the mini group of 5, just so you know our stats. According to my phone, we jogged 4.7 miles in 43:14 at an average speed of 6.6mph and a max speed of 11.2 mph. Calories burned was 445 but that's with my stats programmed in. And I apologize it's not metric but you all can do some math

And thanks for the run yesterday, Stephen. You're just too fast for me!

Hello,

That was a nice training this morning, it feels good to do sport at the great lakeside!

In response to Nicoletta and others interested in walking: walking has become quite popular over the last years, and there are several walking groups in Geneva. I am with Walking Genève Eaux-Vives www.walking-geneve.321.cn as well as with an informal group which walks Wednesday evenings around the Bout du Monde. Both are open to newcomers.

There are also walking events, almost every weekend. Walking as fast as you can is combined with the fun of walking in the open air and the après-walking. Coming Saturday in Meinier, you can combine walking with visiting some wine cellars. Another event will be on 1 June in Morges: see www.walkingday.ch.

This is different from racewalking which is a real competitive sport that I also practice. More about racewalking soon...

Cheers,

Bert

Hi Swiss,

Glad you found the bras

Lovely to speak the other day, rest assured when I get back in June I will come and join you on some runs. Happy I am finally back running again and completed my first race in March, it was a 13 KM "breakfast" run, so the thought of Bacon and Eggs got me through it...

See you in a few weeks and happy running to you all.
