The more people that are on it, the more useful the site gets. And Geneva is the perfect city to have an active Yelp community, as (1) there are many international people, (2) there are plenty of restaurants/cafes/services, (3) a lot of the business websites don't provide a whole lot of useful information so user reviews would be very helpful, and (4) eating out is so expensive here that it I'd definitely want to go somewhere that has been verified to be a good choice! 

Sometimes there is no need to reinvent the wheel. The local review site is http://www.resto-rang.ch/ and the Guides section of glocals serves the same purpose for the glocals community.

If you want to try a lot of restaurants and not break the bank, also look into http://www.assiettegenevoise.com/. They have a membership card that's 90 francs for 1 year and it gives you 50% off on a selection of restaurants. There.

Thanks for the tips, Catalin, I'll definitely check those sites out--I guess I'm speaking from somewhat of a selfish standpoint, as I rely on Yelp globally, and love it when I discover an active yelp community overseas. :-)

I know Yelp is really big in the US esp California but I don't expect it or Open Table to gain much adoption in Geneva for more reasons than I have time or space to write on here ;)

Catalin - i hear your point

Regarding Yelp - it's used in most major US cities, i feel that building it up will in the end be good for American tourists.Much like Groupon & Living Social are making waves globally - much like Yelp will.  I hear the need for local flavor in favor of the items you mentioned above Catalin - but for english speakers from the US - Yelp is the way to go. The UI is constantly being updgraded and it's easy to navigate.

Maybe you should read the "Things to do" section and your problem of not having friends yet in Geneve and thinking yelp will solve all your loneliness globally would be solved. 

Just sign up and go out.

I like Yelp, but there are two people.. those who post and those who read..My boyfriend reads reviews for everywhere we go, yet never posts.   Yelp (like glocals guide) can also scare you away from some places that arnt actually so bad.  I think people are twice as likely to review negative service more than good.  I never even thought about Yelp Geneva! Now I need to look at all my places to see how they stand up =)

I write reviews on pretty much everywhere I go/eat, so I definitely try to note the good as well as the bad, and the reasons for my opinion.
