Cheapest french classes in or outside Geneva?

My employer wants me to do french lessons but is on a budget, seeking cheap classes, but seems like most colleges in Geneva are pricey(from what I've researched).

I am seeking beginner lessons, for weekday mornings per term. I am based in St Julien.

Anyone know any decently priced classes going on please share some insight.

Cheers!

Did you find another family, or did you decide to stay put after all?

See you are now [presumably] in France. Welcome!

Peace and Happiness is more important, so I found an amazing new family.

Yes indeed. Thank you very much.

Have a little look under Leboicoin which is a free on line newspaper for France.

I have found these in your area :

http://www.leboncoin.fr/cours_particuliers/offres/rhone_alpes/?f=a&th=1&location=Toutes%20les%20communes%2074100

Not all applicable of course, but you might be lucky with one or two of them

I agree that these courses are great value, but you need to sign up as early as possible.  It could be that there are now no places left until next autumn but it’s always worth trying in case someone has dropped out.

what i understand for Université Populaire de Genève is that you need to be poor to benefit from there cheep classes, like not employed or domestic help. Or maybe it is UOG, i cant remember. but check both UPG or UOG and see if they will accommodate you. as tehy both are most economic, like CHF 70-

Migros ecole is not expensive and they do a reasonable job in teaching french, and your employer shoudl approve there classes and cost. average class for like 40hrs is CHF 400-

Then I think a really worth while school is Ifage

they are really helpful and good teachers, but a bit more expensive, but still are classes of say 15-20 , so the cost is reasonable.

good Luck

To clarify: to enrol for Université ouvrière classes, certain conditions such as being unemployeed apply.  Université populaire classes on the other hand are open to all – i.e., no means test – hence the great demand for a place. The Migros classes are a fair buy for the money but they don’t suit everyone.  Ifage is excellent but not cheap and the schedule is intensive – can you be sure of getting to every class?  If not, it is easy to fall behind.

Try to negotiate a contribution towards the cost of a course with your employer.  Also ask him/her if the local commune organizes classes.

Meantime, look for a  true tandem arrangement with someone who can really  teach as opposed to offering chit-chat.

Skype might also be the answer.

And keep an eye on the small ad offers in the Classifieds.

Good luck,

R.

You can also try Greta Leman in Annemasse

http://www.greta-lac-annemasse.fr/domainesdeformation

There is a bus from St-Julien (D) to Geneva then a bus from Geneva to the Annemasse border or central Annemasse (line 61 or tram 12)

UPG is open to everyone and suitable for beginner. You pay 50 chf one time registration and 50 CHF for the semester. I think registration might be open now and you can ask to be placed on the waiting list. Good luc.

I would really reccommend Italki, (just google it.)

It might suit you because it doesn't have to be expensive. Its a fraction of average class prices and you will be able to find people who you can work with during hours that suit you.
