For French residents = question

Have any French residents who contribute to the forum been to Germany to buy a new car?

Thinking about a VW Sportsvan [not a van at all, just the name]. What would be the benefits or the pitfalls? VAT slightly less expensive in D, and in any case, car would be exported from there without paying the 19% n'est pas? Whereafter presumably the 21% would be paid here in France.

Jean Lain very, very expensive - trying to avoid paying their upmarket prices!

Thank you in advance for all knowledgeable answers

There are probably other important points, but I would make sure that if you buy the car in Germany, and then import it in France, the brand in France will treat you the same as local customers, specially in what concern annual service/revisions. Many brands will offer them for free (hand labor, not replacement parts) during 5/10 years or up to 100K km. Make sure they will not make you pay for these services in France, or else instruct you to go to Germany if you want to have them for free. This can be a lot of money in the long run.

Same thing when it comes to warranty. Make sure it is valid in identical terms whether you buy the car in Germany or France.

Good luck!
