Full moon at sunrise today.

Hi.

Did anyone else notice the full moon at sunrise today? Can anyone explain how this is possible? if we live live in a heliocentric universe, then a full moon should only be possible if the moon is behind the earth (on the night-side of the earth); and should only be seen at night from the earth.....

thanks

You are waking up early! :-) I have seen the full moon last night only, it was beautiful!

Biggles, what you are missing is the actual magnitudes and distances.

The sun's diameter is 109 times larger than earth's. That means the sun's volume is roughly 1,304,000 times as great as Earth's. You can fit over a million earths in the sun. Add the actual distance between the earth and the moon to your diagram, and you may understand why it is possible to see what you saw.
