Funny, but true '19 Ways to Piss off the Swiss'

So I was reading various articles and found many were very helpful on the website

http://www.newlyswissed.com

And then stumbled on this article

19 Ways to Piss off the Swiss

http://www.newlyswissed.com/19-ways-to-piss-off-the-swiss/

Most of us have probably stepped into proverbial cow dung by asking inappropriate questions while in a foreign country.

While reading through these statements, ask yourself why a Swiss person might not like to hear some things. Are you committing a cultural faux pas, stating a lie, or are you simply being too direct about an inconvenient truth?

By pondering about this, you will undoubtedly discover something about the Swiss psyche. And in the best case scenario, none of these statements will ever have to be spoken out loud... In short: Do not use this knowledge to poke at the Swiss, but instead become friends with someone!

Alright, since you insist, here are some ways to piss off the Swiss:

1. Asking whether they speak "Swiss".
2. Pointing out that Swiss German is just a dialect and not its own language.
3. Wondering whether Switzerland is next to Norway or Finland.
4. Asking what the capital of Sweden is. ("It's Zürich right?")
5. Asking who the king of Switzerland is.
6. Drawing the Swiss flag in a rectangular shape.
7. Saying that Belgium chocolate is much better.
8. Wondering whether in the land of cheese and chocolate, everyone must be fat?
9. Stirring in the cheese fondue pot when it's not your turn.
10. Referring to Roger Federer as being a South African (not a Swiss).
11. Writing yourself in on your building's shared laundry plan on a day that you normally don't use. #passiveaggressive
12. Stating that "Switzerland is boring."
13. Assuming that all Swiss are bankers, brokers or traders, and that everyone is filthy rich.
14. Bringing up "Swiss banking system" and "corrupt" in the same sentence.
15. Asking where all those gold reserves are from.
16. Saying that something is too expensive here, "I'll just buy it it Germany."
17. Skipping Switzerland on a European vacation "because it's too expensive."
18. Assuming that everyone skies - every day.
19. Claiming that your home mountain in North America is better for skiing.

If they piss them off ... it must be because some of them are true ... to some degree, at least :))

Some others I can think of Wink

20. Claiming that going to vote doesnt change anything anyway.

21. Saying the swiss military is useless since its such a small country.

22. Standing on the left side of tje elevaror stairs.

23. Saying ots useless to learn Swiss/German/French/Italian since everyone speaks English anyway.

24. "Lakes are dirty and not as cool as the sea."

Sorry Dave, but actually having heard friends from the US make such statements several times over the years, I have not once seen the Swiss person(s) involved be bothered to the least. Usually they expect yanks to be quite ignorant. No, really, I do not say that to offend (and it is at best a gross generalization). Usually, the Swiss (and Europeans in general) are quite amused to confirm the stereotype. In fact, read your list and think about it. What does it show about a person making such comments? It really does not really say anything about the Swiss. Give it a thought.

It might also show that your taking it all so much more serious that I do,

I am a USA, Irish 20years, Swiss National/resident for 20 years and I can laught at myself either as an American and Swiss.

I can just chill and watch more serious messages that make me chuckle

Oh, I am very lucky and appreciate Switzerland, both living here for years and then being accepted by my commun to become a Swiss national. Further, more that half my friends, friends not just co-workers, are Swiss. And I am daily in contact with some in Basel, Bern, and Zurich. So I can say, I am more aware that you suggest.
