The premis of the question is eronous. It is suggesting that the ideal family compostion is of an adult from either sex and that individuals who fall out of this catagory would still want to subscribe to this point of view.
If the question were asked in the context of two friends who wanted to build a family together but not have sexual intercourse (which is what happens in a lot of marriages after a certain time) than you could have a normal discussion.
However, the way in which this question is asked forces judgement on what is an acceptable family composition.
Are you asking this question for yourself, in which case talking to your partner would be the best place for this conversation, or is it out of your personal belief system ?
And to answer your question could two friends creat a positive and strong family without having a sexual component to thier relationship – in my opinon yes without a doubt. That is what a good relationship is based on.
