I'm tempted to think this is a joke post, however you look gullible enough, that I'll assume you're serious.

Very large Coop's have a (very small) gluten free section, as do some pharmacies.

Expect to pay double

The Swiss for "organic" is "Bio", except hardly any of it is "organic" in the way you think.

Expect to pay double

If you can find an Asian-run shop, they'll stock coconut milk.

At double the price of "normal" milk.

Someone will probably stock almond milk (probably, again, only in some "Ethnic" shop).

Expect to pay triple

If you're looking for "dairy-free", Ahem! you're in Switzerland!

And even if you pay double,  you can't buy any of this on a Sunday.  Thankfully!

Welcome to your brand-new world!

Ok I have been working and haven't gone to a store yet and happen to have time today and saw they are closed on Sundays

I knew bio was organic and I'm not as worried about that because quality of food seems way better than in America.  I'm mostly wanting dairy free  that seems hard here.

I assumed it would be pricier it is everywhere else. Thank you.

If you have a blender, almond milk is easy to make. (Worth the investment if you're staying any length of time).

Here’s my recipe with dates as a sweetener. It's  truly best made fresh each time but will keep in the fridge for a day or two if needed.

Ingredients
  2-3 dates (pitted)
15-20 almonds
Pinch of cardamom powder (optional)
Cup of water
1. Soak the dried fruit and the almonds in water in separate bowls overnight.
2. In the morning remove the skins from the almonds.
3. Put them along with the dates into a blender. Blend for about 30 seconds.
4. Pour into a glass and add the cardamom powder.
5. Stir well.
6. Strain through a sieve (optional step).

Serve and enjoy!
p.s. experiment with the quantities of almonds & dates to your taste :)

There is a "health shop" not far from the lake, they have some choice of  vegan and vegetarian food, gluten free pasta and cookies etc, egg substitute. Otherwise you can take a ride to France, in any bigger shop you can get nice selection of "milks" and "diet" food (no gluten, no milk). For example Carrefour brand of bio almond milk is €2.60~ 2.80 per litr, sometimes they have them on promotion (sort of buy 2 get 1 free). The only thing - don't expe t to find cheap coconut milk in Europe,  especially the ones without any additives cost fortune. And oh, supermarkets in France are open on Sunday mornings!

I don't really agree on most points exposed by Carolyn C (except that yes, most stores are closed on Sundays here).

Look for the Satoriz chain stores in nearby France. Prices are much lower than prices in Switzerland (even compared to non-organic products) and you can find a lot of (tasty) stuff there. There's one small S in Ferney and a bigger one in Thoiry. A lot of non-dairy choices there at very affordable prices.

Good luck

There is also  a Satoriz in the Industrial area of Gaillard.
If you don't have a car you can get part way by the 3  just after the customs and the 6, or if you are very energetic it's a 1.9 kms walk from the customs!
Also one in Fernez Voltaire, bus F.
Otherwise La March Bio in the  Zone Industrial Montréal, Annemasse/ Ville-la -Grand has a good  choice. The bus stop there is very close to the shop.
Combination of French buses 2 and 3 for quickest access, or bus 3 direct but longer.
The French tickets are 1Euro 30 for one hour travel

Any good sized coop will stock almond milk and coconut milk. I haven't seen coconut milk yogurt, sounds lovely though. There are a few Asian grocers in the Paquis if you want cheaper products in bulk.

And any large French supermarket usually has a decent health food selection. Worth the occasional trip out of town if you're very dedicated.

You don't mention why you don't eat dairy, it's not my business. But if it's a dietary intolerance rather than for ethical reasons, you will find sheep and goat's milk in big Swiss supermarkets and raw cow's milk in France. Many find these to be more digestible, physically if not ethically.

I think a lot of us struggled with dietary adjustment when arriving in Geneva. I eventually found a good site where I order online, I get through a lot of extra virgin coconut oil and found this the best way. Cheap but slow delivery www.iherb.com.

Hi Rebecca,

Near train station, right behind manor where the tram stops there is a bio shop, they have gluten free oatmeal there and different kinds of milk. The bio shop mentioned previously in Eaux vives is quite good as well. I often stock on almond milk and gluten free food in general in Satoriz, France. It is way cheaper there. Pharmacy such as sun store, amavita is another option but it's overprised.

Hope it helps.

Alissa

Hi Rebecca, Urban Bio Market is a good health food shop - I think there are at least 3 in Geneva - one in Eaux Vives, and one is in Paquis close to the station. Their addresses are 20 rue Montchoisy, 3 rue Jean-Violette &   19 rue des Alpes(near Gare Cornavin). The service is always really friendly and they often ask if there is anything you would like to see that they don't stock.

And they are open on Sunday!

A couple of months ago, at the top of Rue Adrian Lachenal, I saw an "Opening Soon" Gluten free products sign. I think the shop is called Miam Miam.
