Looking for an orchestra/brass band/harmonie in Geneva

Dear Glocal community, I will be moving to Geneva in May 2017. A very exciting time, so much to discover and experience! During daytime I work for a multinational, but in the evening I am big music enthusiast.

I have been playing the trumpet and cornet for more than 20 years in different brass bands (http://www.kortrijkbrassband.be/ and https://www.brassbandwillebroek.be/), big bands, harmonies (http://www.kghk.be) and orchestras in Belgium. I do not have the improvisation gene, so pure jazz is beyond my limits. I like a musical challenge and have taken part in several competitions over the years, but I am not a professional musician.

I am looking to join one or two orchestras/bands in the Geneva area and I am looking for your advice. Ideally I find a well-established orchestra with a predictable weekly rehearsal scheme. I am open to many setups, but a harmonie or brass band would be my first choice.

To give some perspective, this was my latest performance in January 2017 in Belgium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxRmlJSPLf4

I have found Harmonie Nautique (https://www.harmonie-nautique.ch) online, which does seem to tick all the boxes, do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi yannick - sounds great! I am also looking for an orchestra (i play the violin) so if you have any success finding anything let me know. One tip for you might be the UN orchestra, I tried it once but  the rigid rehearsal schadeule wasn't compatible with my job.

Patricia, thanks for the tip.

I am going the concert of the Musique Municipal de Geneve on Friday the 2nd of June 2017 (Victoria Hall) to see if it suits my needs, unfortunately no violins though...
