Paternity Leave

Hello Everyone

My wife is pregnant, and I am about to have a kid (due towards the end of September). I was just wondering if anyone has any definitive idea of how much "congé paternité" one is allowed?

My work says that in Switzerland there isn't a uniform amount of time allotted, but that the Swiss norm is between 1-3 days. However, I have read elsewhere that the State of Geneva now gives up to 10 days of paid paternity leave.

Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of this, or any idea where I can find the exact legislation concerning the Canton de genève?

Any advice would be warmly appreciated.

Cheers

Remember that you're talking about Switzerland, which isn't known to be the most progressive country in the world. When my kids were born, there wasn't even a maternety leave.

I don't think there is a legal obligation for peternity leave. As you can see on http://www.bebe.ch/drupal/node/266132 :

Alors le congé paternité est au bon vouloir du patron de ton homme ! le mien a 3 jours, un copain a eu 2 semaines mais un autre a eu seulement 1 jours ;-( Et il n'y a même pas l'obligation de donné même 1 jours ;-(

I think you'd better start saving up some holidays for the big event.

PS. Zuzana's article refers to the leave given volontarily by the canton to its own employees. (I think)

Hello,

There is NO mandatory paternity leave in the swiss law. It depends on the employer. Some of them offer a few days to a few weeks.
