Scooter permit
Just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction as regards getting a scooter. I understand for a 50cc there is a plaque blanche and plaque jaune, one being unrestricted. For the unrestricted version do you need a special licence? What can you drive with a regular car licence? Is it difficult to get a 125cc permit? Do you have to do a special test? Thank you for any help in advance. Frank

Hey Frank,

For the 50cc with the yello plate (which means you can go only up to 50 KM/hour): all you need is a valid car licence. Nothing more.

For the 50cc with the white plate, and 125 cc: you can drive it for a year without any special test or lessons. During this year, you have to do atleast 2-5 lessons (I don't remember the exact number), and that's it. No test needed.

If you want exact details, ask for George at Scooter Scoop, 022 734 02 54. He speaks English, and knows his shit.

Tell him you're this scooter rider, to ensure you get his attention:

Hi Frank,

I recently got my scooter licence A1 which means I can ride a 125cc scooter on drivers license. Not sure what the yellow plated scooters are (never seen one??)

You have to have a swiss drivers licence, however it is easy to convert. Think it is 200CHF from memory and they do it on the spot. Just need to fill out form and have stamped eye test verification.

To be able to buy a scooter you get a temp scooter license which is 150CHF from the Automobile de Service in Carouge. This lasts 6 months and before it expires you need to attend 8hrs of tuition, organised classes (in french usually). Upon completion take this back to the Automobile de Service and they give you full scooter license. The mandatory classes are for 50cc or 125cc and cost the same.

If you want anything bigger you need motobike license.

You could take a permit "as if you live in France", till 125cillinder. How strict could be the punishment if they check & you are living in Switzerland? Can they? I don't know.

Helena.

Thanks for the help everyone. Anyone know what the situation is if you live in France and are a frontalier? Do you keep your Swiss drivers licence or do you change it for a French one?
Where are you from...? that's the main question you should answer so that we can help you man.

If you have a French driving licence and you live in France you don't need to convert it and you can drive scooters up to 125c.

Now if you live in France and are from another country, you have to deal with the French authorities, which is totally different from everything everybody has explained to you so far... lol ...:D
It is for my wife who is English and now has a Swiss drivers licence. We now live in France but she will use a scooter to drive around Geneva so the scooter will spend 95% of the time in Switzerland. I don`t know if it is better to buy a French or Swiss scooter or Exchange the Swiss licence for a French one. Thanks
