Work in Geneva / Live in France?

Hello all,

I am a USA national living/working in Geneva under a carte de legitimation (H). I am interested in moving to the Ferney Voltaire area and I have heard much conflicting info about my ability to do so (as I have no residence permit in France). Does anyone know if Ferney has an office comperable to Geneva's OCP where I can go and get official answers? And if so where it is?

Many thanks!

-Alexandra

Hi Alexandra,

I have no idea about the OCP-equivalent, but I have never heard of a US national being able to reside in France on a Swiss visa. Here are a couple links that might prove helpful, if you can read French (one's a PDF so you won't be able to translate the site in your browser):

Best,

Steve

I think you should clarify with the public body issuing your carte de legitimation if you have any legal restirction in the first place to live in another country....In my reading you should be restricted to live in Switzerland in the first place.

They should also be able to reply to you how you can perhaps live in France. I am sure it is not the first time they have heard this question.

Good luck.

It might be difficult to obtain a residence permit in France if you do not have a European passport, if you are not born in in France or if you do not have relatives in France. You could check the forms and documentation at the following website (Prefecture):
