Working in Neuchâtel, living where?

Hi, I'm starting work in Neuchâtel soon and need to find a place to live, that is within daily driving distance, say 30-40mins/way. Public transport is less important.

For tax reasons, I want to live outside canton Neuchâtel, but still somewhere near some kind of social life - any suggestions?

France won't work, as I understand there is no tax agreement.

Yverdon?

Lausanne area?

Bern area?

I am living in Neuchatel . I think you might face some prolem with your Permit if you have different address (another canton). I suggest Bern area can be nice.

Thanks for your input.

I was advised by company people to look outside canton Neuchâtel, as the tax difference is substantial (4-9k CHF/year), so I presumed it would be OK on a B-permit.

Lars,

As a Danish citizen with a Permit B you can live wherever you want. You are not tied up as other non-EU (Indian) citizens.

It is good to ask around but as you know expat people give advice here quite often without  understanding the legal system, tax of the country where they live.  Wink

Congrat on the job - it is a relief after such a long time....

Thanks, Réka. The links are very useful. Yes, it is indeed very nice. In the end, I had three offers within the same two weeks. Two at the French Riviera and one in CH. Tough, but the right choice ;)

About social life, Lausanne area is probably the best area in Romandie. (and you're not far away from your Geneva's friends)

Now if you choose Bern, you've got an easy access to the Swiss-German part and all the Expats who live there, which is quite interesting too... (say hello to EFS)

Now they speak Swiss-German, which could hurts your ears.....  (lol)

Thanks, Bertrand.

Swiss-German doesn't hurt my ears - it just confuses them! - and I speak German. Eventually, I'll understand it.. I think.

I work in Neuchatel, but I`d also have a preference for Lausanne or Bern. You would think, all that speak Swiss German, also speak standard German. Think it`s only a matter of willingness. So far my experience with that is possitive.
