teaching qualifications

I am writing in hope that somebody can help me find out where i can obtain a teaching degree or certificate. I already have a Bachelor so i dont want to spend 3 years getting the required diploma at pedagogical universities. what i am thinking is like a year course that would give me righ to teach (I want to teach math for ages 12 -18). If anybody can give any advice i'd appreciate.

Hi,

You will have to go through pedagogical classes at the HEP if you want to teach in public schools (the law changed a couple of years ago). The Bachelor only shows that you have a university degree not that you are able to teach. The sooner you apply and get the equivalency (if you have a foreign degree), the sooner you'll start and finish. 12-15-year-old kids takes two years, 15-18-year-old kids takes one year, but for this qualification you need a Master, which means you will have to go back to university for at least one year before you can apply at the HEP.

If you need more information, send me a PM, please.

Bye

Which certifications do you need?

They generally want experienced teachers, if you have a master or a bachelor degree it will be enough. They don't ask for teaching qualifications for teaching to secondary school pupils.

The ecole internationale de Geneve (http://www.ecolint.ch/), one of the biggest international schools here, offer a teaching qualification. It's based on the UK PGCE qualification so takes one year, you start with a bit of pedagogical theory but will be teaching classes quite soon, under the supervision of an experienced teacher.

This qualification wouldn't allow you to teach in Swiss public schools, but it would give you a good chance of getting a job with ecolint or one of the other private schools around here.

The qualification is expensive though - you'd need to be able to support yourself here for a year aswell as paying the course fees (several thousand chf I think).
