Awesome story from first day in GVA

So Im standing on the Mont Blanc bridge waitin to meet up with Ottavia cause shes comin with me to look at a flat.

Theres a bunch of, lets just say 'gangsta types' a little down the road. One guy asks me for a cig, Im a nice enough guy, I give him one and even light it for him... I've been around enough of the type so to say that I perceive them as clowns moreso than a threat is pretty accurate. The guy is way too overfriendly and walks off... I check my back pocket 'Oh no you didn't you *** ** * *****!'

Run after the kid, grad him by the collar... he looks at me as if he just pissed himself, hands me back my wallet and says 'Pardon.' I looked at him with a mixture of im-about-to-throw-you-in-the-lake and pure confusion. I guess for him tryin to steal my wallet and gettin caught was equivalent to giving someone too little change back. So yeah, that was interesting... I know that from the rougher areas in Sydney and back in NYC... didn't expect that in this town though haha.

Oh well, but much worse, I went for some pints at the Pickwick or whatever afterwards with Matt. 8 CHF pints!?!?!? How? Why?

Nice going Andy, and a very nice welcome to Geneva :-)

Did you throw him in the river or not?

And where were all of his 'gangsta' friends while all of this was going on?

Oded

 The reason the first thing didn't happen was the second part of your question. The other 5 were maybe like 20 meters away... trust me I wanted to send him swimming, but I feel like had I actually done anything more than take my ish and have it be done with, it would have been followed by disaster for me. Cost / benefit analysis definitely said 'no' to that one ;-)

You should have also run after the owner of Pickwick and get back your 8CHF for the beer! ;-)

 You will be surprised how many people this has happened to (and I dont mean paying 8chf for a pint!) - do not let your guard down, yes it is "safer" than some towns but the bridge and Jardin Anglais are prime targets for pickpockets or scammers.

Welcome to Geneva - once bitten twice shy.

@Andy -

I noticed that your name is Andy H.  That and your story keep reminding me of Andy Hug - a legendary Swiss kick boxer who, sadly, died a couple of years ago.

Lucky for these ganstas they ran into Andy H and not Andy Hug :-)

Oded
