Hi,

I cant tell you what the eating costs are like but the airport is a long way from the City centre, if I can remember correctly about half an hour in a taxi.

There was a cracking scottish bar that did full scottish brekkie and haggis stuffed chicken breasts in town though which was fairly reasonable.

Enjoy!

i know of  a great hungarian restaurant in a cellar with gypsy music (cymbalom ) and also playing chardash etc. the chicken paprikash with dumplings is amazing and unforgettable. why do you want to stay near the airport? noithing out there. you want to be in the city center. you can always follow the street signs ( of which there are many) pointing you in the direction of KFC, burgur king and dunkin donuts.....ah yes, western influence at its finest . lol

Thanks guys,

i'm really looking forward to it

I chose there for a number of reasons, porn and beer not amongst them but whilst in Rome..... or rather Budapest .... ;)

and duly noted about the airport... as long as transport is ok and inexpensive then it's going to be great

Just came back from Budapest, spent there 2 days at business trip, but managed to stay for Friday/Saturday night.

First - that's a great choice, you will have fun.

Some prices - still fresh in my mind:

- taxi airport-city centre - 20 CHF (but takes around 30 min indeed)

- whisky&coke in a clube - 6-8 CHF (YES Laughing)

- nice dinner with wine at top place 40-45 CHF

- pizza/pasta/simple food out - 10 CHF

Things to try - goulash and goose liver (maybe not together).

On sightseeing - make sure you visit Royal Palace at top of the hill on Buda side. During the day it is pretty crowded, but night view on Budapest is amazing and if you are lucky - it will be empty. I was there around midnight and had the whole place for myself :) It is 10-15 minutes climbing up to the hill and may be windy so mind the dress code and max you can afford is moderate high heels ;)

Enjoy!

Hi Lyndsey,

I'm near from Budapest. I don't think you'll find a good hotel near the airport, a taxi can take you to the center for 25-40 CHF tops.

You should check the Castle, and some of the bath also, like http://budapestgyogyfurdoi.hu/en/szechenyi/history# but on this page you will find a few others also.

If you are looking for some restorants my favourite is http://www.fuchsli.hu/ , great food on a good price.

Do not forget to tase a few great hungarian wines also :-).

If you need more details, just let me know...
