Christmas Day lunch/dinner?

As someone here in Geneva for all Christmas and the New Year, I would like to know what food options there are for Christmas Day (25th).

I know that some hotel restaurants like President Wilson's offer Christmas Day lunch, but are there other options? Will the airport and Cornavin-area restaurants be open at least? What about on the 26th of December and the 30th of December?

I just ate at the airport restaurants (the Thai place). It was overpriced but sufficient. Holy Cow (near Cornavin) was closed on the 25th but reopen on the 26th so I went there today.

Cooking for oneself at home and alone on Christmas Day can be a pretty daunting experience.  I’ve done it a couple of times but not from choice.

I didn't see this til now, but if you're in this situation again next year, plenty of places in Paquis were open.

Now in the same situation, one year later. Which restaurants in the Paquis area were open?

First of all, I’m not English.

And secondly, may I ask where in the UK do you come from ?

Thanks, R.

Justin,
Many restaurants are open on Christmas and offer a Menu de Noel at noon. Do a search in the web an look especially at hotels, whose restaurants, for obvious reasons, are open on Christmas day. But you have to make reservations in advance, as demand is very high.

Food is better on the French side, obviously. I just made a reservation at one of the restaurants at the Casino in Divonne. Better hurry up, as many places have ran out of space.

I've seen some hotel restaurants in Geneva but wondered if others had a master list of sorts...so far all I see is the President Wilson hotel and Hotel Kempinski offering meals, and my understanding is those are sold out anyhow...it's actually been quite tough to locate via Google searching for "Christmas Geneva lunch hotel".

Well, try entering something like: "geneva repas de noel restaurant" instead.

French is the predominant language in Geneva. IF you enter a phrase in English you are going to get only places like the Wilson, Kempinski, Intercontinental and restaurants in Geneva illinois.

At this point it is kind of late, and your choices will be limited.

Here is a suggestion: Find a Turkey and offer it to Olivia in exchange for having you over for her Christmas meal.

Hi Ritchie! Merry Christmas.

The insulting entry from De Dem is a year old. But she is still around, I think, and having "spagetti" for dinner.

Obviously she comes from somewhere in the UK where proper English and proper manners are not required.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help out. I lucked out on some last-minute availability for hotel restaurant meals after typing in "repas de Noel" as suggested. I also realized Pathe Balexert was open (it seems for most of the Christmas weekend), so I ate there as well. The airport restaurants also were open, which was helpful.

Thank you for letting us know how you fared over Christmas.  Perhaps you’ll also report on your initiatives this weekend ?

Enjoy – and best seasonal greetings,

R.

Yes she is still around...... had a nasty exchange from her over another posting we had listed under the classifieds section. She is seemingly a very unhappy person.......

Dear Sheila:

So sorry to hear of your own experience of a member’s misuse of a public site but thank you for sharing the information.  Let’s hope the person concerned will find more constructive things to do in future.

Meanwhile, my very best wishes to you and all of yours for health and contentment in 2018 and the years to come.

Take care and mind how you go,

Ritchie
