Hello. I am a college student interning and taking classes in Geneva. I have been here almost 3 weeks and will be in Geneva until the end of November. I work Monday-Thursday and have class on Friday until noon, after that my weekend begins! I am looking for suggestions/advice for day trips or weekend trips.
I have the Swiss 1/2 pass and am looking to travel within Switzerland
and beyond, it is just a little difficult because I do not have much
free time and want to make the most of it. I am looking for a mix of
activities and a, really open to trying anything! I love
hiking, museums, shopping, music, culture, food, going out and just
generally have a good time! I am on somewhat of a tight budge (poor college student living in one of the most expensive places in the world )
I am only here a short while and though I would look to some experts
(you all) for help! So far I have been to Gruyere, Lausanne (but only
or a short while), Munich, and Interlaken.
Thank you!!!
ANY suggestions would be welcome! Favorite bars, restaurants, etc. in Geneva...

Hi! Traveling around Switzerland is relatively easy. As far as i know hostels are
quite nice here and very reasonably priced, numerous locations. Check it out:
www.youthhostel.ch- I loved Basel and Colmar in the neighboring France
(sometimes railways have special offers for this trip. Augusta Raurica is also nearby if you
are interested in that: 2 days 1 night trip. Basel has some great
museums. - We also enjoyed going to Schwyz, Altdorf and then took a
boat ride from Fluelen to Lucerne. If you haven't been to Lucerne - do stay overnight;
Lucerne is beautiful. - We loved the glacier express train ride (7 hours) :
took it from Zermatt to St Moritz - for that you will need 2 nights and 3
days. - You could also go to Solothurn - an absolutely lovely baroque
town, from there we took a boat ride on river Aar to Biel and then a train back to Geneva. All
you need is to get up early and you can do this in one day.- Neuchatel is really
nice and Murten is beautiful - again, doable in one day.- Yvoire and Nyon are
nice and quite close to Geneva. - Chateau de Chillon, Montreux and
Vevey are great.- Annecy is a beautiful day trip - you can take a bus from
Geneva bus station for 33CHf roundtrip.- Rochers de Naye is just above
Montreux - great nature place.- Bern and Fribourg - both great towns to visit; day
trip each; Paul Klee museum is quite nice in Bern. - Lugano, Bellinzona is
another at least 2 day trip, i'd stay 3 days though; Locarno has a nice hostel-St
Gallen is really nice town; We spent a night in Appenzel and took a pre-alps express
from St Gallen to Lucerne. If you do so, definitively stop for at least a couple of hours
in Rapperswil - i loved this town! - You might know this already, that
sometimes it is more advantageous to get carte journaliere, particularly if you take day trips
and go long distances - you have to be on the direct train before midnight otherwise you'll
have to buy a ticket.- If you are a resident of Geneva, Pont de la Machine tourist
office sells 35CHF day passes valid on a specific day and on all types of transportation (it's
like carte journaliere but for less money) - Railways have multiple offers
for trips to museums: it's a combined train and museum ticket; you can find ti online, or
better simply pick up their promo booklets at the train station.Hope this
helps!

HI I took the bus to Annecy last weekend and it was wonderful. It is so beautiful there and it has great shopping and restaurants. On Sunday there was a brocante fair throughout the old town. It was a really fun trip.
