The assurance ménage usually covers two things, your personal liability for damages done to third parties (i.e damages as a tenant) and your content (fire, theft at home, water damages, glass breakage, etc... depending of your covers).

Look closely at your contract, as sometimes, you may see the mention "assurance ménage" but when you look at the covers you may only have personal liability only, content only, or both.
