Finding child care in Geneva
Just wondered if anyone can help on finding child care in Geneva - specifically champel area.  we have signed up for the creches - i am due in may and will be returning to work in october and need full time care from then onwards.  I am not holding out much hope for getting a spot in creche so looking for help/hints on nannies/ maman du jours in champel or surrounding areas?  i have heard lots of stories of nannies but most have no permits.  all help or suggestions gratefully received!

welcome to Geneva :); we have gone through all this:

  1. official: inscription at BIPE http://www.ville-ge.ch/dpt5/enfance/bipe_f.php
  2. private: there is a number of private creche, garderie, ...in Champel area, just look in the internet under private schools geneva - however the price is of course more expensive
  3. a lot of organizations organize day care (http://www.geneve-enfants.ch/presse.html; http://www.genevefamille.ch/qsPortal/Home.asp?N=61455; ..)
  4. a good explanation can be found here as well: http://www.cagi.ch/en/Creches_Garderies_Mamans_jour_Vaud.htm
  5. Finally - nanny; you can get anything from illegal over refugee to legally integrated in Switzerland just look at the adds in local newspapers. If you go for this solution better consider to register at http://www.cheques-emploi.ch/ in order to be covered against accidents and illegal employment.

IceBear gave you the maximum of informations to Geneva, it is a real problem for everybody, however,if you or your husband work for a big  company or organisation, it would be to ask at human resources Dpt to help you, certains organisations have a deal with Crèche.

Have you tried placing an advert on WRS or the kiddie club site for a maman de jour/nanny. Alternatively there are always adverts on there for nannies e.t.c. Also take a look at the market place on this site under jobs as people sometimes advertise there. Good luck

most English-speaking nannies advertise on www.kiddieclub.ch or on the wrs site. You can place an advert too -- you'll receive lots of return calls. You can also advertise in the local papers and seek advertisements by nannies there. Otherwise there are also au pair and nanny agencies (google nannies and geneva). Best is to continue asking around until you finally bump into someone that has a recommendation. Until September you have plenty of time, so don't worry!

Thanks for the great list of child care options.

I am trying to register for a childcare place on the official inscription at BIPE http://www.ville-ge.ch/dpt5/enfance/bipe_f.php where we pay a % of our income.

Unfortunately my French is not good enough to understand the link.  How exactly do I register? Are there any rules about when you can register (I am not pregnant but heard the earlier the better for signing up)
