I don't know if this is a permanent change or not, but when I asked for a wifi card, I got a hand-written password for the Starbucks wireless network. And seemingly without limit. Been here for almost an hour without logging in again....

yeah! the 30 min limit is so annoying...
so, what was the password? so we can try it the next time in sb.
@epicure gosh, that was pretty silly of me to forget the password, eh? It's "surf4free"
But, again, disclaimer or whatever: who knows how long it will last. It might be just until they get a new batch of cards printed.

The lady Godiva pub in Plainpalais also has free unlimited WIFI. Just ask any of the staff for the password

This is probably to keep up with Geneva municipality's recent trend to set up a whole free Wi-Fi coverage. You can now connect to the Internet for free in many public places, just by choosing the network SSID ville-de-geneve. There is no password, and connection is unencrypted (beware).

By the way, Starbucks Quai des Bergues still uses the 30-mins card logins...

Actually, I think what I 'discovered' was just a temporary thing. They must have run out of cards and had to open it up to everyone for a few days.
But the interface was the same....go to the Starbucks login page and then enter the right password.
I wonder if surf4free still works?

Actually, the 30-mins Starbucks cards have each a different login. The password is always the same.
Was surf4free the WPA password, or something you enter in the Starbucks login webpage?
Anyway, in Starbucks Quai des Bergues there is municipal WiFi coverage, so it's much easier to connect to it -- the exact SSID is ((o)) ville-de-geneve . Signal strength may be low though, depending of the number of people using it.
