Insurance question
A friend just found that her health insurance has decided to deny her coverage on an operation she had. The insurance had previously said it was ok and based on this she went and had the surgery. Now that the bill is submitted they are saying they will not cover it, so she is stuck with huge bills.

Is there some agency in Switzerland that controls the Insurance companies to which she can complain to? The insurance company has basically said either accept it or get a lawyer and take us to court. Yet she can't afford a lawyer. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your friend can contact the Federal Consumer Affairs Bureau at www.konsum.admin.ch

and

the Fédération  Romande de Consommateurs at www.frc.ch

It is very important to know whether she and/or the clinic/hospital had written authorization from the insurance company...

The portal www.ch.ch has more information on consumer protection as well as links to Swiss Federal Government departments including that of public health  which (I believe) governs health insurance matters...

good luck...

Yeah it seems that the Insurance companies are always looking for a way not to pay. Thank you all for your advice.
