Jet Pipe Installation in Toilets

Hi folks,

We have a question regarding a jet pipe installation in the toilets in our apartment. Some of our relatives who will be visiting us in Geneva would not be too comfortable with using the toilet paper roll - so we thought it would be useful to have a jet pipe installed. We enquired with a plumber who quoted an exorbitant 1500 CHF for installing this in 2 toilets. We did know Geneva is expensive but we felt that is in a completely different league altogether!

Has any of you got something like this installed in your apartments? Any good leads for reasonable plumbing services here?

First and foremost, do you own your apartment or are you renting it?

If you are a tenant, it might be prudent to inform the Régie/landlord of your plans because, when you vacate the premises, you are normally expected to leave any installations in exactly the same way they were when you took over the lease.  This means that you could be asked to restore the adapted toilets to their original condition – at your expense of course.

A bon entendeur!

Thanks for the alert Ritchie! In fact, we've already updated the Regie about this & we were told that we can get it installed at our own expense - but yes, we did not think too much about the uninstallation & how much we would incur for that too!

If the Régie has agreed to the installation, you may not be asked to dismantle it when you leave.  But better to get written confirmation of this before putting the work in hand.

Also keep a note of any telephone or other conversations (date, name of employee, etc.) because staff do come and go in these offices.

I would have a look in the glocals  "classifieds". I'm sure you will find a handyman / plumber who can do the work for a fraction of the price. As Richie points out inform the Régie and get the green light from them. Don't forget to ask if they will pay for the work!

If your water pipes are visible and not concealed in the wall, it is not a complicated job. I would imagine you would only have to turn off the water supply, cut a section off the pipe to install a joint, stopcock and add the hose. A handyman should be able to get these from Jumbo Markt (next to Conforama) or other DIY / plumbing shop.

I'm intrigued to know why you were quoted sfr.1'500....can only imagine the hose would come with a state of the arts bathroom suite attached to it.
