Moving to Geneva in 3 weeks! Career advice needed...

Hi All

My french partner and I are moving to Geneva in 3 weeks time and I just thought I would say hello!

I am from the UK and only speak french at a basic level but am eager to improve, I am under no illusions that this is going to make it difficult to find employment but if anyone has any advice I would be very grateful!

I have over 9 years experience in customer service within the Printing industry but of course my search is not confined to print...

Thanks, Mike

Hello Mike,

Welcome to Geneva!

I do not know anything about your field of expertise, but I can only advise you to practice your french, there are some adds in the forum for language exchanges, I think that might help you.

And for work opportunities take a look at jobup.ch which is plenty of job postings and http://www.optioncarriere.ch/ which is a search engine for all the job posting websites around.

Good luck for you both!

Cheers

Manuela

Hi Michael,

I can only reiterate what Manuela said.

A lot of jobs, even for the international firms require a strong grasp of French. Not necessarily for the job, more to simply get on with colleagues.

Good luck

Sign up for an intensive course of French as soon as you can.  The University has excellent summer courses for all levels.  However, they are greatly in demand so enroll soonest.

Alternatively, the IFAGE and Migros courses are both worth investigating.

If you put the summer to good use and keep track of the job offers, you could find something before the end of the year.

All the best, R.

Hi All

I hope you're all having a great bank holiday!

Just following up on this thread that I started last month, I have now arrived and am living in Annemasse, France while continuing to practice my french and search for jobs.

If anyone has any further information about prospective opportunities for english speakers please let me know :)

Thanks, Mike
