Recommended recruitment agencies in Geneva?

Hi all

I'm relatively new in the Geneva area and gave up my job in the UK when my partner relocated here with work.

I'm actively monitoring the JobUp, jobsinGeneva and Monster websites and have tried registering with a couple of agencies (Finders and Michael Page) but am hoping to get more recommendations of agencies that I can register with.

I've 10 years of experience in Marketing with blue chip organisations and a MSc in Marketing Management so looking for agencies that could help me find a mid-management role in an international organisation ideally.

I'd be grateful for any recommendations of agencies or any suggestions of how else I should be going about my job search.

Thanks.

Try this link it might be useful to you: There are lot of vacant posts in the international organizations in Geneva according to this link however, getting hold one of them is the problem. http://unjobs.org/duty_stations/gva

We are in the similar situation; I followed my spouse and left my cushy job. I have been in a senior managerial position more than a decade..The International agencies that I have applied either tells me I have great experience and qualification but they need someone junior or my cv do not match what they are looking for. Some humane agencies say they have me on their roaster...all the same the answer is NO..they do not know what a remarkable person they are missingMoney mouth...Perhaps you will be successful and I wish you all success.

I am even willing to give one month of my pay who so ever can help me find me a dream jobWink..

Thanks all. I had JobUp and Michael Page already, but the others are good suggestions I'll look into.

Another query I had was whether living in France was likely to hinder my search at all? My partner got a G permit via his employers without problem and as I'm also an EU national I presumed that this wouldn't be viewed negatively by employers. Is this correct? Or do you think I'd have more luck if we were actually living in Geneva?

Jacey,

I doesn't change much I think.

You still need to get your permit via your new employer.

If you are EU, should be much easier.

Hi I also am trying to build a list of Agencies and what they specialise in, I have been in 3 fields during my proffessional career and while I may think they are related many agencies don't.

IT Consultant/Technician - Levels 1, 2 & 3

Web Designer

Draughtsman / Designer using AutoCAD & Solidworks

So before I send 1 of my 3 different CV's to someone who has no interest in my talents I propose to use this thread to build a list of Agencies and specialitys.

I will start the ball rolling with an IT one:

Elan Computing Schweiz AG: IT&T Recruitment specialist and IT&T recruitment consultancy. At 7 rue du Mont-Blanc, 1201 Geneve

Hi, and welcome.

An agency that I have heard only the best about is Interiman in Geneva. Many of their staff are expats themselves. From time to time, they have really awesome mid mgmt. marketing positions in multinationals (not so much international org's though if that's what you're after.) Talk to Gleb Iatsenia.

Good luck!

Hi Maria,

the post dates back to 2011 and Joanna does not seem to be active since last yr...

That being said, looking for a job in Switzerland is very much the same as anywhere else.

1. You need to dedicate time to do your search.

You need to do the search daily. Then you pretty much will land with a job - unless you have a really special job / qualificatin  - in 5-6 months usually.

2. Apply on-line as most jobs are indeed advertised on-line except for the really high profile roles. Even agencies will call you in based on your on-line applications.

3. when agencies ask you to meet them, go in, here they prefer to get to know you in person and to understand what you are really looking for.

4. align your CV to the current trends (google: what a CV should look like in 2016)

this is great fun to do especially if you have not updated your CV in years.

5. linkedin, xing - no need to say that you should update your profile and make it sexy.

6. pull a list together with people who can give you recommendation in case of need

7. go in to the local unemploment office. they have a database you can browse there.

I think you also can register with them and they may assign you a consultant to help your job search but as all things in life, you need to do the hard work.

8. Look up on Linkedin HR/the companies you would like to work for here and try to send in in-mails when there are no jobs advertised yet. Sometimes these kind of cold applications / calls can also bring good results.

Agencies: manpower, hays, michael page for sure and there are many others. when you do search on-line, you will find more.

Also, dont be georgraphically super restrictive. If you live in Geneve, you can work also in Vaud or Neuchatel if you are willing to drive a bit more.

Hope you will find the above useful. Good luck.

CV is key but do not ony use one single version. HR, agencies are looking for peolpe who really fit the box and have the exact competency. Thus, you need to highlight in all your applications why you fit the box. It is not about being enthusiastic or having good work ethic. That is a given.

Two months is nothing in these parts.  You may have to wait several more before striking lucky.

Meanwhile, if it’s needed, work on your French and look for opportunities to volunteer.  You’ll get to know the local market as well as local residents and sometimes a word here or a word there can open up new avenues.  It can also be a plus to mention on your CV, demonstrating that you don’t just sit around in your new environment.

All the best,

R.

You should join the Glocals group "Geneva Career Empowerment Network". They meet every Monday and share ideas, networking, CV tips, and support for job seekers. They're great people and going to their meetings will surely help a lot your job search.

While it’s good to read that you find this thread useful, please bear in mind that it does date back to 2011, so  be sure to check any facts you read here in case they have been amended in the interim.

However,  you can always ask for up-to-date tips and advice before and after your arrival in Geneva.

Best wishes, R.
