Regie offices open on Saturday Dec 30?

Hello,

There's a high likelihood that we are moving to Geneva in February. So, we are visiting Dec 30-Jan 3 (though we fly out early a.m. on the 3rd) to get a feel for the city. Was hoping we could meet with a regie on Saturday, Dec 30 to see some apartments/houses. Due to the new year, though, it sounds like many offices are closed.

Does anyone know a regie who would be willing to show us some places on the 30th? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to glocals and soon to Geneva !

Unfortunately, the New Year weekend is not the ideal time to visit Geneva because

the 31st of December and the 1st of January are public holidays so many places will be closed for the entire weekend.  Moreover, the New Year break is traditionally a time when city and town residents head for the mountains or visit family and friends living in the countryside that they weren’t able to see at Christmas.

There will, however, be fun events and fireworks on New Year’s Eve but it’s not the best time to get the “feel” of Geneva or indeed Switzerland.

And as for the régies, they – and many other private and public services – are never open on Saturdays.  Also, almost all shops, apart from convenience outlets, are closed all day on Sundays.

So, if you can, I would suggest that you choose another weekend to visit Geneva.

Best seasonal greetings,

R.
