Yes of course Helen!  I didn't mean to exclude anyone, I just miss hearing the Scottish accent.  Great idea David, let's try and get a group of folk together and meet maybe sometime next week.

How would next Saturday night suit everybody?  The 17th of November.  When we decide on a date that suits everyone I'll create an event on here.

John, it would be great to make it a regular thing!  When do you plan to move to Geneva?  I remember you posting on here about moving with your wife and child too, not sure how old the wee one is but I'd be happy to meet up with your wife and suggest some playgroups, parks etc that I know of as I work as a nanny here.  Oh and I'd like to order one vacuum packed haggis please!

Hi Holly.. We're moving sometime in Feb. Would be great for the wife to meet up with somebody. Her main worry is around finding stuff to do for her and the kids. There's only so much you can read online, so much better to meet people.

We have a two year old now (three in Jan) and the new one is due at the end of December. So it will be interesting times :)

Sure we can arrange a nice wee freshly caught haggis!

I'd be more than happy to show her around.  It's pretty hard to find stuff online.  there are lots of things to do with kinds here and I'd be happy to show her around a bit, I go to two Engilsh speaking playgroups with the little one that I look after and there are so many brilliant parks which are great in the summer and on sunny winter days too.  There are also ludotheques (toy libraries/ playrooms) which are great if the weather is not so good.  Tell her not to hesitate to get in touch with me.

Freshly caught haggis is my favourite!

So are you in Geneva yeah? We'll be moving there first to a 'company flat' for a couple of months and from there, we're not sure yet. My company is providing an agent to help us find a place but we're just not sure where we'll be going yet!

No problem at all.  Yeah, I've been in Geneva for two years now working as a nanny so I know a fair few places and things to do with kids.  I know how daunting it can be to move to a totally new place, that's good that your company are helping you out with accomodation!  All the best for the new baby and as I said just tell her to give me a shout nearer the time Smile

There's a lot of fun to be had at the Geneva Scottish Country Dancing Club if you are interested!  There are classes for Beginners on Sunday evenings and dancing on Thursday evenings (in the centre of Geneva) for those who know some of the basics.  Newcomers very welcome. Have a look at www.genevascdc.com or email/telephone me for more details.

Thanks

Hi Michelle, I will organise another Scottish Drinks night for sometime in January, then plan to make it a monthly event.  I'm a nanny and the wee girl I look after is 14 months old, I'd be happy to take you along to the two playgroups we go to (Tue and Wed mornings).  With regards to finding a nanny or au pair, it depends if you are looking for full time live out childcare (a nanny) or part time live in (an au pair)... you could place and ad in the classified section here and also there are a few groups on facebook for nannies and au pairs that you could advertise in, also the classifeid section of wrs.  Hope this is some help, just give me a shout if I you'd like more info.  Also let you know when you arrive and we can plan to meet up for a cuppa with the wee ones.  There's a nice cafe that I know of in Carouge with a playroom. Smile

Hello everyone, if theres a meeting in early February we should def. pipe in the Haggis!! How could we organise this? Or is there already something going on in Geneva?

As for the Geneva Ceilidh (oh sorry 'country dancing') group - lets do it!

I'd like to visit either on the 20th or Feb. 3rd. Who is in? Holly have you been yet?

John, what make is your car and can you transfer the steering wheel on the left handside as to drive on right side in Switzerland ?Wink BTW, If you want to sell your house quickly do not forget mentioning your cellar has still tens of whisky bottles in the cellar, that's a valued premium!

Happy New Year everyone, I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic Hogmanay!

I went to the Geneva Country Dancing group last Sunday and it was great fun.  It's a beginner's class and the teachers were excellent.  I'll definitely be going on the 20th, so please do come along Kim and bring anyone else that you'd like to (there are people from lots of different countires attending!).  Last time there were 12 of us including the two teachers.  Avril said it would cost 5 CHF to come to one class and she'll let me know the price for all 6 classes next time.  The details of where it is, etc are on the website, it is just over the river from the "Jonction" tram stop.

It would be really cool to pipe in the haggis... this might be a bit tricky to organise though as I havn't seen any haggi running round the Swiss hillsides with one leg shorter than the other!  So as you suggested Kim I'll organise another Scottish "Burns" Drinks for sometime soon.  Any preferences on dates folks?  I'm thinking a Friday evening towards the end of the month or at the start of Feb.

Smile

Smile

all other nationalities are also welcome!
Please only sign up if you're sure you can attend so I can reserve a table for the right amount of people.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the 8th of March.

There are Scots (and lots of other nationalities) who come together to do Scottish country dancing every Thursday at 6.00 pm in the centre of town. The classes have stopped for the summer, but they start up again in September. Come and join us! Beginners welcome. See genevascdc.com for more details.
