Second hand bikes in Geneva

Hi there,

I'm after some advice on good places to pick up a second hand bike, specifically a BMX, in Geneva.

I've tried eBay and other online sites, but I'd prefer to see the bike in person before I purchase it. I've also attended one of the ProVelo auction events, but they didn't seem to have any BMX bikes.

Does anyone know of good second hand bike shops or bike auctions in and around the area where I might be able to get my hands on one?

Thanks for your help,

Rachel.

Hi,

I think this is the best place for cheap used bikes in Geneva:

http://www.fourriere-velo-ge.ch/

not sure on bmx, but they really have a huge sortiment. Opening hours are kind of ridiculous, but, well... :)

These are mostly bikes picked up by regies from caves where the owners have long left, but they are also retouched a bit before selling, so you can really choose a nice one that fits you well.

Good luck,

Réka

Only problem with the fourrière is that you might have to go a couple of times.  Have been lucky and have found what I wanted on the two occasions that I have been there.  They are very cheap

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll head down there tomorrow and check it out.

And Paul, when you say cheap, how cheap? I understand this is Switzerland (and everything is crazy expensive), but I wonder what a good second hand bike costs here.

Thanks.

Careful, they're only open Tuesday and Wednesday (crazy even in Geneva terms :)).

We've bought good bikes for 130 chf, I was there yesterday and bought a wheel (yeah, to replace one that was stolen) for 20. So it's cheap cheap. :)

I have usually paid around 250-300 francs but then had to add on items. My last bike was bought in January after the previous one was squahed by a drunk driver (with me on it) and I already need a new tyre.  With all the extras eg lights rack stand etc and now tyre it is probably approaching 500 francs but still good value.  However I> was not looking for something special.  BMX might be difficult. You can also get Swiss army bikes if you want to be different but they have no gears.
