Suggestions for a weekend Getaway from Geneva?
Okay, summer is ending and escaping Geneva for a fun weekend for two seems like the best solution.  The only problem is..where?

I was thinking of ski resort that was also summertime fabulous, but found the choices overwhelming. So I am turning to the trusty expertise, and personal experience, of fellow glocalers.

I'm looking for recommendations of nice resorts/chateau/hotels/inns within a 2 hour drive of Geneva, preferably somewhere scenic. The direction doesn't matter- France, Italy and Switzerland are all options.

We're thinking of renting a car, and  looking to book a room for 2 nights.  Ideally it would be within an hour drive of a city (Grenoble? Turin?) for a daytrip, and of course all that romantic junk (jacuzzi, sweeping views, nature hikes), but I am open to any that you think is worth it.  It's more of a quality/relaxing trip than a sightseeing trip, so the ambiance of the hotel is more important than location.

Seriously, any suggestions quite welcome. Thanks in advance!!

Evian is great, and the hotels there are gorgeous, also there is some bains de something I cant exactly remember at the moment(i know not very helpful). The Hotel Ermitage there is awesome, its old but very comfy and the spa is great. There is also a Casino at night, although small its nice to get away. I'm sure you can do hikes and everything else around there. Also Annecy is great I think when its nice out, you can rent a boat and have a nice dinner there as well. Yvoire, is another great place, tons of restaurants on the lake and there is a chateau there also. Hope that helps best of luck.

there are thermal baths in Ovronnaz and Leukerbad. The latter is more scenic but also significantly further (about 2.5 hrs from Geneva  vs. 1.5 for Ovronnaz) both are nestled in beautiful mountain scenery and are a combination of thermal baths & restaurant & hotel. I have been to both personally - i would go for Ovronnaz because the added value of Leukerbad is more evident in the winter with skiing being involved. I would reserve as soon as you can, last time (albeit it was a present for a friend during the x-mas period) http://www.thermalp.ch/ http://www.ovronnaz.ch/en/

RossDonovan & I, amongst other friends have an Event. It requires a car, takes you through beautiful areas to the Aosta Valley.

1. Lots of lovely shopping

2. Beauty in the landscape

3. Nature at its best

4. Its not that far away.

This weekend coming. If you need to rent a car, you can do so by looking at beneluxcars.com or ch I cant remember. Not used them since 3years but they have better deals than direct rentals as they shop around and have negotiated ahead.
