Via Ferrata
Hi All
Does anyone know of any Via Ferrata clubs that we could join?
Or does anyone go regularly so that we could join in as a group?
Thanks!
Alison

Post 1
Was just about to post my own questions when I saw there was already a question posted by Alison. I have never done via ferrata but having seen photos I am very keen to try. Is it advisable to get training or go with a guide first time round? What about equipment - what is essential? Is it possible to hire or do you have to buy? Are there any easy/beginners routes near here? Thanks in advance for your feedback, Marianne :-)

Well,
you dont have to take a guide the first time, but we did, only because with the guide came all the equipment and we didnt want to buy before we tired it out. (we paid CHF 60 for a 2 hour trip to "la cascade" up at Les Diablerets with a company called moutain evasion http://www.mountain-evasion.ch/En/viaferrata/)

the bare minimum kit is
decent shoes,
harness (50 euros)
helmet (50 euros)
Via Ferrata "Y lead" with 2 caribiners. (50 euros)

theres a few around for beginners, have a look at the via ferrata website which is quite good (theres a map for switzerland and a list for france) the one at neuchatal looks quite good) theres loads within an hours drive, even one on the Saleve (which we still have to try) http://www.viaferrata.org

regards
William

Would very much like to go as well! Has anyone gone before, know what equipment is needed, or how to secure a guide? Am athletic but haven't done one before.

There is a via ferrata at Roche au Dade, in Morez, few Km after the Col de La Faucille. There is the possibility to rent all the equipment on the spot and it is easier for beginners than the one in Fort l'Ecluse.

Anybody wanna go next weekend?

Check out this group, they organize events very regularly:

http://www.glocals.com/groups/JTs-Lausanne-active-events-group.htm

In Geneva, you can rent the gear in this shop:

http://www.cactus-sports.ch

For Lausanne, they suggest a shop in the event postings.

Have fun! ;)
