Windsurfing
Is Lake Geneva a good windsurfing spot?

Are there any windsurfing locations along the shore where you can rent all the equipment?

I was windsurfing a lot when I was younger...but haven't had the chance to do it over the last ten years. Now I moved to Geneva and would love to get back into it. Unfortunately, I can't bring my own equipment to Geneva because I have no place to store it (no garage or basement). Therefore, I would have to rent he entirre equipent.

Thanks,

MK

There is a place next to Geneve Plage where you can rent windsurf equipment. I think it is around 24 francs for an hour, and I dont know if they also do wetsuits.

Thanks for the fast response! I'll definitely check out the spot you recommended!

Do they have English speaking staff (my French is still very bad)? Is the equipment ready to go when you rent it, or are you responsible for rigging etc.

Thanks!

There's a place in Grand Saconnex called Technosurf which has been around for a long time.  I know a lot of people surf from the Reposoir Plage but don't know if you can rent from there. Technosurf would know & I'm sure some of their staff would speak English.

whatever you do, just don't take lessons at 'trop' - I tried last year and took the 5 lesson abonnement in september - they cancelled about 3 times, and a further 3 times they simply werent there, without so much as a phone call to let me know.

in the end I had 2 lessons out of 5 and then they closed for the winter.

Hy MK in the place above metioned Tropical center or wakeboard center, you have everything you need!  They assemble everything and you just have to get on the water. I have been doing it and it is perfect.  They speak english and they are very nice and they will be more than happy to assist you. I paid the whole season which is worth it - around 500 CHF with assess to all the material you can think of including paddle surf for the no wind days, for for how long as you wish.

In the Summer you have nice weather, but not very much wind. In the winter, you may have good wind, but the water can be quite cold...

If you like stronger winds there is a little spot between Montreux and Martigny (quite small) or the South of France (I recommend Port Leucate close to Perpignan for its very strong wind and not very deep lakes which avoid big waves and the risks of the high sea).

I'm renting from time to time at the trop.ch - agree with 10eke - the staff is lacking organisation and motivation. Having said that, if you just need the board, that is not really a problem. They prepare the equiment while you change.

What's the wind like at the moment?  It seems very still in town but I'd love to go out.  The water is lovely at the moment so no wetsuit needed.

Do trop provide harnesses?

It depends. I definetly have a good experience.Cool

I also did the 5 session abonnement (but signed in June – so more time left till winter) and had my 3rd lesson. I kind of call last minute in function of my babysitters’ availabilities and if there is wind ;) but I do speak French…
