The view is great from just about anywhere. On this site you can find the trails through the wineyards, it's nice leaving your car in Grandvaux and walk all the way to StSaphorin, come back by train or just walk back. http://www.lavaux.com/index.asp?language=EN



There are many restaurants in all the villages in that area, as well as wine cellars. Here two places where I've been:

Going up to the Mont-Pèlerin you get a nice view too, from further away.



I used to commute every day to Fribourg for 2 years by train, and never got tired of the view... :)

I love the lake views in Chexbre--which is maybe 10 minutes from Montreaux. There's a little tea room above the vineyards with a terrace.



But what I've done, and especially easy to do this time of year, you can grab some pastries and wine from town, go to the path that leads through the vineyards, find a little shack tucked away amongst the vines, and have a private and intimate view of the lake and mountains.



It is ever so romantic ;)

... you are looking for a nice place to drive-up ... have a great view on the lake and the wine area ... lounge or restaurant ... here is the place to go ... recommended to make a reservation if you want to eat there and as well the terras at sunny days!

Go from Vevey with the train up to  Puidoux-Chexbres.

Walk up (there is a hicking trail indication) towards the Route de la Corniche -
the train station would be aprox 800m away - however mountain up to get there :-)
