Hi. I work for an international organisation based in Vaud and there is a possibility that some staff will be asked to reduce their hours from 100% to 60% to save money. In Australia where I am from, an employer would have to make us redundant if we don't wish to accept this offer, as our old full-time positions would no longer exist and would be replaced by new part-time positions. I had a quick Google but wasn't able to find anything conclusive. Anyone able to clarify how this sort of thing works in Vaud and what are rights are? Or point me in the direction of the relevant body we can ask for advice?

this is called "chômage tecnique" and you may refuse this new contract, however, the unemployment law will penalise you for not accepting a job!! however, the good news is that if you accept the 60% employment, you may claim unemployment benefits for the 40% ( as long as you show that you are seeking a 40% or another 100% job) so, not really all that bad. work less, get paid almost the same :-)

Some of us have been looking for worthwhile positions for many months: so my advice would be to take the 60% [as well as applying for the 40%] and be thankful you are still employed.
