Stumbled across this site that has a list of 'best of' cover songs. Best part is there's clips of most of the performances so you can see if it's worthwhile tracking down the song. I have already obtained Damien Rice doing "When Doves Cry/Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" which was released in Australia's JJJ on an album called "Like a version".

While not everyone's cup of tea, k.d. lang doing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is quite moving.

Hi Matt, I am a fellow Canadain, my Dad was in the Airforce so I have lived in the West, Edmonton...born in the East, Nova Scotia and lived many places in between!! Just wanted to say thanks for this site and at this moment... I think I would kill for a Tim Hortons coffee!!!

Thanks to this post I recently got in cover songs and found this great website with top cover songs, that is very instructive:
