French Music - entertain me!

Ok, so I have always avoided French music with avoidance somewhat similar to the way that one may avoid the plague.  However, now I am ready to hear the best French music has to offer!

Looking for your help in getting an intro into French music, current stars (don’t need Britney Spears or Take That’s), cult songs and or old classics.

Thanks

Salut!

You have so many different names of french band, depending of which type of music you like.

Rock music: Dolly

Pop: Zazy, Aaron (some songs are in french), Francis Cabrel.

Slam style: Grand corps malade

Other style: Trio, vanessa paradis, Jean-jacques Goldman, Edith piaf, Matmatah, Forent Pagny...

I am not a fan of french music, but try you will be surprised!!! ;)

Clint mon ami...

I'm not too fond of french music either but this one,  sang by Edith Piaff and specially  the accompanying video is a gem, I guarantee!

If you like it then I'll share with you a very cheesy song that I've  loved since I was 11. But only if this one gets  the thumb up ...

"A quoi ça sert l'amour?"

Loosely translated What is love for?

Ok I guess you're ready for Adamo, the cheese master, but a real class act with a very long career and successful international career.

The song, C'est ma vie,  was a worlrdwide success in the 70s, even in farway Brazil where I heard it for the first time.

This is a live recording of a duet with Garou, a  young french canadian siinger.

Ok the opening is awful, the arrangement sucksm but it's a great song and these guys can sing ...

Great, thanks Robi for sharing these with me.

The young guy reminds me of Harry Connick Jr. for some reason (but just with bigger ears).

Good song for me with easy words...

Ok, this song is in English, but the composer/musician/singer, Maxim Nucci, also known as Yodelice, is not only super sexy and cute Kiss, but he also won the French music awards "les Victoires de la Musique" last year... and he is French!

Great thread, by the way... a few of these songs I never knew the title or the artist, like Chagrin d'Amour...always loved the little English rap at  the end of the song...Laughing

Martin Solveig (Martin Picandet) is French...OMG!!!!  I find him far superior and cleverer to David Guetta whose stuff I find too eurodisco/earwormy for my taste no matter  who is yelling it.Undecided

My goodness, though, no one has mentioned Serge Gainsbourg along with those other shlock-meisters, Claude François and Johnnie Halliday (Oppppp-tic Deux Millllllllllle).... Yell

I think another of Brel's best is Ne Me Quitte Pas.... The way he sings "Don't Leave Me" is powerful and pathetic...Nina Simone sang a great version of that as well...

Unpolitically correct song:

Here's a rough translation of the lyrics to enjoy the song at its fullest...

DANIELA

What I like in Daniela is that we can use our fingers

She's always up for it

She agrees to lend me her body, oooh

What I like in Daniela is that we can be three to take her

She always agrees to it,

to beat all records, ooooh

Daniela, la la...

What Daniela likes in me is that she'll always have the choice

I'd do anything to please her

i'd take her front and her rear, oooh

And in Daniela’s mouth... (and in Daniela’s mouth)

There’s always enough room

For our visiting friends, oooh

Daniela, la la…

Hahahaha.. excellent punchline...and,  yes, she and I do all the same things ... at night...

And now, La Baker, J'ai Deux Amours (...mon pays et Paris)...

Baker was born in  the States, was the first American woman to be awarded the French Croix de Guerre, and adopted French citizenship later in life.

OMG - I am totally gobsmacked that there is soooooooo much French quality music out there.  Before then, there I was quietly listening to the only French guy I knew "Yves Duteil", thinking, "the man's good some good vocals and melodies, but is this it?"...

Thanks for those who have added music and please continue.

That's true! How could we have forgotten Serge!

He got the most beautiful French women... Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani, Brigitte Bardot... he certainly knew what women wanted (ref a new thread) Wink

That one is pretty explicit...
