On Beauty by Zadie Smith
Another review from the GOL book club. On Beauty is the story of a half white/half black, half-American/half-British family living in a US college town. The books explores what the parents and three children (all of whom are very different) are going through in their lives. The parents are dealing with the aftermath of infidelity, and the kids are dealing with religion, identity, and growing up.

Member Jimega's re-cap from the meeting:
* Most of us liked it. Nobody really loved it though. Average rating 6-7 out of 10.
* Style: Nicely detailed style that reads like a movie. Sometimes too detailed but mostly very vivid. Hard to get emotions out of the book for some.
* Content: The family impression is very well done - great overall picture but lacks depth of subjects. Easy to read content-wise, maybe author too young or didn't want to get to in-depth subject.
* Characters: Everyone liked Kiki, nice mum, quiet traditional through. The father is not so pleasurable but no men really is. Caricatural caracters (Levi black bronx...).
* Overall: good book, recommend for light read, not exceptional.
