Also, with respect to housing, since you're EU, it is a bit easier (and cheaper) to find housing on the French side of the border ... though it depends on what kind of commute you're comfortable with (FYI, I work in Champel, but I live in Esserts-Saleve, just up from Annemasse, and the commute is very reasonable at around ~20min by car).

My expectation is not to drive at all! :-) you can't imagine how much I've been stressed by Roma traffic jam...maybe I could buy a bike :-)

as said by others, you need a car only if you live in France. All the Geneva area is very well and efficiently covered by public transports. 

I hope you will enjoy your new life here, you are arriving in the best season!

PS Eaux-Vives is a very nice neighbourhood as first accomodation, very close to the lake and a lot of bars / restaurant

I really loved Rome when I was there, so beautiful:) Switzerland is nice, I moved here about a year ago. I don't have a car and walk to work. The public transport is pretty good.

spero che tu cominci bene la settimana. Abito qui da febbraio e ammetto che sono contenta che sia arrivata la bella stagione! Non dovrebbe essere difficile ambientarsi ora che si puo' godere la citta' all'aria aperta. Se hai difficolta' per il primo mese forse c'e' una possibilita' di subaffitto a ferney (che ha un bus comodissimo per andare a ginevra) fino a fine giugno :)
