Hi everyone! Colette, intern (UN agency) will be moving to Geneva by the end of November

Good evening you all!

I'm new and subscribed today to glocals.

My name is Colette, I'm 27, from Naples - Italy and I am moving to Geneva at the end of November to start a six months internship at the UN offices.

Would love to join the community activities -outodoor, sports etc.- but the very first urgent matter for me is: housing. Anyone any recommendation on this? Websites where I can look for accommodations? I received the internship notification with a very short notice and I am quite desperately looking for a room in a shared apartment (would be best if next to the UN offices).

I hope I posted in the right thread...

Thank to everyone!

if your an intern the best thing for you to look for is a shared appartment or a room for rent. If you do have a car try moving to Nyon rent is cheaper, other then that you can get a rool for yourself alone for around 1000 CHF and I think you should look for one in Eau Vives, shared appartments in Junction can be horrific. I remember seeing one with 8 people staying in an appart made for 4 and they all used one toilet. try Immoscout if you want your own place, or Anibis.ch, Ricardo.ch as well.

Hiii,

I'm also a UN trainee and struggle a lot to find an accommodation.

There are several facebook groups :

https://www.facebook.com/groups/512328578863685/

https://www.facebook.com/groups/396738560372636/

Try also the website www.easywg.ch. There are a lot of propositions, usually it's 800CHF/months.

I live at the Swiss/French border (Gaillard), cheaper and always pay with €. It's really convenient because I have the Swiss Tram next to my place :)

Thanks, unfortunately I won't have a car with me in Geneva and I am looking for something "affordable" in the city, possibly a shared apartment in the Rive Droite area...

Hi Jennifer! Thanks for the suggestions!

I see you're also a UNITAR intern, maybe we could meet at some point :) Which department were you assigned to?

I'll be starting on the 19th of November and will be arriving in Geneva this saturday.

I subscribed to easywg and there are plenty of options... And everything is sooo expensive if compared to Italy, gosh.

Hi Colette,

Welcome to Geneva... and congrats for your UN internship!

Don't compare Geneva with Italy...Geneva is ridiculously expensive. I enjoyed Rome in almost half of what I'm spending here in Geneva. But at the end, its not a bad place to live.

Regarding accomodation, glocals is a great place to start looking.

Good luck!

Hi Colette! I think we're in the same position! I'm starting an internship with the UK Mission to the UN at the end of November, at very short notice (I only found out 2 days ago... :S) so I'm trying desperately to find somewhere to live too! Have you had any luck so far? I've been told this website is good (https://www.anibis.ch/fr/immobilier-cherche-à-louer--466/advertlist.aspx?sf=dpo&so=), although I haven't found anything so far. Let me know if you find any good websites or places to look :)

Also a new intern at the UN here. Any of you guys interested in organizing a meet-up or a get-together?

Hi all

If you're looking for a lovely 2-bedroom flat in Carouge for 3 months I'm vacating it while I travel abroad (mid-December to 2nd week of March). It's CHF 2100 per month, perfect for 2 people - 100m from Armes tram and bus stop, just next to old Carouge. See my ad in the classifieds if you're interested.

Cheers!
