New arrival in Geneva

Hi there,

I just arrived in Geneva on Monday, October 24th, and am still feeling my way around here. I am a graduate research assistant at CERN, looking for an apartment to move in. CERN is closer to Saint Genis (on the French side), but Geneva would be a much more happening place to live in. And more expensive too (for a grad student anyway)! If you guys have suggestions on where to find good deals on apartments, I will appreciate your taking time to respond.

Besides that, I am also looking for new friends to hang out with. Yes, I do have quite a few colleagues at work, but I am looking for someone who does not necessarily do physics. I get enough of that at work. Nothing against physicist really - in fact, I have never metaphysicist that I didn't like. But I'd also like to hang out with people who have an appreciation of fine arts, difference in cultures, languages, who are poetically inspired, let's say. Even though I am a physicist by training I like to read and explore (even if it's on my own). If anyone is exploring Geneva, please let me know.

I am Suyog Shrestha, originally from Sindhuli, Nepal, and now a graduate student in the U.S. Also did my undergraduate in the U.S. Working on my Ph.D. thesis on the LHC data at CERN.

Thanks!

You can do a search on the forum regarding housing info (so you understand that putting this in the forum will not help too much) but I believe that Cern has an in-house support as well that proved to be more useful many times.
