New in Geneva from Canada!

Hi all! I moved to Geneva this past Friday for a few months, and I’m looking forward to meeting all of you wonderful people, doing a bit of travelling, and just having an amazing summer.

As you can tell, my name is Ola, I’m from Canada (originally from Toronto but currently live in Montreal), mid-twenties, I’m working on my MPH degree and here for an internship, and I’m pretty adventurous and like to have fun!

I see there are already some discussions going about meeting-up for drinks and going out, which I’ll definitely have to join, but I was wondering if anyone has started planning any trips around Switzerland or elsewhere in Europe? Bungee jumping in Interlaken or Tomorrowland in Belgium, anyone?

If anyone has recommendations about places to visit, best (most affordable) modes of transportation, good hotels/hostels to stay at, and any other tips, I would greatly appreciate it! Also, any suggestions about car rental companies for road-trips starting in Geneva and going up to Vienna (or Prague)?

Ciao!

xx Ola

Hi Ola,

I from Toronto as well but I currently study in Ottawa.

I am in Geneva this summer for a law job. It would be great to visit the surrounding ALPS and possibly Berne and Zurich. I was also thinking of taking a trip one weekend to Milan or Turen.

Recommendations: If your travelling in Geneva, I would recommend getting a bus pass. I have been in Geneva a few days now and public transport is so fast and esay here. But I have been cautioned to watch out for pickpockters! Travelling outside of Geneva can be easily done with trains. Train tickets to other cities are decently priced from what I hear.

Cheers,

Robert

PS: I would be so down for Tommorowland

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the advice and warning about the pick-pocketers…I’ve heard some horror stories myself.

Have you joined the GIA (Geneva Interns Association) group on FB? They’re planning a hiking trip in the Alps and it sounds pretty amazing! I’ve been pretty busy getting settled in and haven’t had a chance to plan any trips yet, but definitely hoping to do that this week.

Hope you’re enjoying Geneva so far!

Ola

PS. As for tomorrowland, tickets have been sold out for months. That was just wishful thinking on my part. Maybe next year!

I'm from Toronto as well, and interning here in Geneva at the World Meteo Organization until the end of August. Though I'm from Toronto I've been living in Barbados for the past year.

Looking forward to meeting up with you and other Canucks.
