New to Geneva and bored!!!!
Hi moved to Geneva at the start of August with my fiance and his work. I haven't found a job yet and being a housewife is getting boring.
I love meeting people, going out and trying new things. I have explored all of the city and I am looking for something new to do in the daytime, any suggestions would be welcomed.
Hope to here from you soon
Charlie ;)

"Geneva is not the best town to find friends, especially swiss-friends"

Yeah and when you say "Hi" to anyone at a café, they stare at you like you want to steal their Rolex lol

Charlie, again that is an entirely false cliche conveyed by obtuse people!! Linaa surely you do not mean what you wrote or you totally fail to understand the local culture. Ask any Brasilian or Russian in Geneva if the place is unfriendly :) if you make the effort to discover other places and open up to
locals, contacts are actually very easy. But of course if like 99% of
expats one does not bother to learn any French (remember local language is French?), only hangs out at expat venues with groups of expats playing
Wednesday quizz, one will hardly meet any locals (assuming you really
want to meet them)... ok that's also a cliche; or is it?

Charlie, actually language is  false issue, for most professionals here will speak English. Having some kitchen-French does help indeed with restaurant staff and cashiers at Migros but is hardly a disqualifying matter lol

It is true, as opposed to anglosaxons, Swiss hate to impose themselves to strangers. They will await a signal from you to open up. Try asking something about local customs, Geneva wines etc. Chances are you will not be let out of the place before everybody had a chance to tell you his or her vision of the matter... Go out, be curious! There are lot's of well-stocked wine-bars, lounges
and bars where professionals like to relax after a day of work... and take husband with you once in a while... this is still a latin area after all ;)

well get your self a half tax or i think its called demi tarrif here in geneve from the train station and check out www.railaway.ch and pick up the monthly leflets they have at the station.  it wont help you meet people but may releive some of the bordem and you can get to see the country and fill some of those days you have spare up.

i guess you could even put posts on here if you do a trip and ask if anyone else is free and wishes to join you

Hi Charlie,

I am in a similar situation - living with my boyfriend and searching for work and to make new friends and keep active. But it is quite difficult and frustrating at times. I'm also looking for new things to try in the area. Perhaps we could venture out together. Let me know if you are interested.

I'm new to Geneva, only been here about 2 weeks. I'm a bit nervous about meeting up with people in this way but i'm keen to brush off the fear and try something new. Normally i meet people by being introduced by other friends so this is a bit scary because it's different to what i'm used to. Onwards and upwards! It sounds like good fun, interesting and a great way to give my partners ears a rest ;0) I don't stop talking when he gets home from work! He barely gets a foot through the door and i'm already nattering away! I'm just so glad to have someone to talk to! Pretty sad really ;0) Anyway i haven't been here for long so i don't expect it will be like this all the time. Please let me know if you all decide to meet up as it would be nice to have a natter and get to know people in a similar situation. x

 Hi,
It's a great idea to organise a (Monday) morning coffee club for people who are not working (or have a flexible schedule) to meet other people in the similar situation. If it is a runner, perhaps we can arrange other events in the future, like coffee mornings, attending exhibitions, day trips. I look forward to meeting you on Monday.

Count me in.  I work as a freelance photographer/cameraman so I have plenty of free time and I am getting quite a bit bored.  I have a few friends here but they work 9-5 jobs.  My girlfriend travels quite a bit so I'm left on my own.

Has someone started an official "activity" on Glocals yet?

 Hi All,
Im in the exact same position, looking for a job and the days
get longer and frustrating without one. I have been her since July, i try to keep my days busy by
going to French lessons and going to the gym. I am pretty new to the Glocals community, but
last week Friday i attended the new member drinks event in Paki. It was really good, mainly full
of people from all parts of the world, and this is an ideal platform to start socializing and
networking.
However guys my social network still remains
very small, and the weeks to come remains unchanged........ and im always open to meet with
anyone interested......

Cheers.....

 Hi All,
Im in the exact same position, looking for a job and the days
get longer and frustrating without one.

Cheers.....
