UK nationals: please sign petition on expatriate disenfranchisement

For all UK nationals:
As a UK National, could you please support the call for an independent review of the validity of the EU referendum franchise.
A link to the petition is here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/163102

Any UK National can sign the petition, whether UK resident or expat, whether or not they voted in the referendum.

The petition and background (from the above website):
"Many UK expats were disenfranchised from the referendum, violating Art.21 of the UN Declaration on Human Rights.
We call for an independent inquiry into the validity of the referendum electoral roll and for further government consideration of EU exit to be postponed until its finding is made public.
"

"UK expatriate citizens residing abroad for 15 years or more were excluded from voting in the EU referendum, in contravention of their human rights, as laid out in Article 21 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights of December 10, 1948 (General Assembly resolution 217(III) A). We believe this disenfranchisement to be unacceptable, since these UK citizens are among the most directly and adversely affected by the referendum outcome."

More than 700,000 Britons resident abroad are estimated to have been denied a chance to register for the ballot.
The UK is one of only two EU states that disenfranchises its expats after a period of absence abroad (15 years).

My personal feeling is that either expats should not have been disenfranchised at all, or foreigners resident in the UK for more than 15 years should have been able to vote in the referendum. Which was not the case...

Please sign the petition & share it as much as possible because:
- At 10,000 signatures, government must respond to this petition
- At 100,000 signatures, this petition must be considered for debate in Parliament

Many thanks,
Natalie
