Family road trip through Italy... need advise!

Hello fellow Genevois, I am looking to do a 5 to 7 day road trip from Geneva to Italy with the family. We want to see Milan, Florence and Rome for sure and some of the Italian countryside. Possibly keep the car outside town (in hotels) and travel in public transport within the cities.

Any suggestions on :

1. Driving routes to take/avoid

2. Hotels/rooms to book (2 adults and 1 toddler)

3. Places we must not miss.

4. And any other travelling in Italy tips

Will be deeply appreciated!

Thanks in advance and hope we all get to have a good Geneva summer, now that it is finally here.

Post 1

- Don't spend more than a half day in Milan, for shopping. There are more beautiful places to visit.

- Don't miss Cinque Terre; one of the most beautiful places in Italy and on your way

- Pisa is very close to Florence, and worth a quick stop to see the tower.

- Route: just go through the tunnel at Chamonix and head for Milan. Expect 1-2 hours delay there (the queue in front of the tunnel); it's summer time. Once you're through the tunnel you go through the valley at Aosta which is beautiful.

- Italian food. Eat it.
