Glacier Express

Definately going to do the GC this winter to see some of the wonderful scenery of this beautiful country.

My thoughts are an early start from Zurich to Zermatt, then the GC to St Moritz, have dinner (or possibly on train) then home to Zurich before midnight. As I have a halb tax abbo, I could buy a SBB day card for 68chf then just the GC reservation of 13chf, so quite cheap too !

Can anyone offer any tips ? Would it be better just to Travel to Chur and take the GC from there as the above is 18hours on trains. Or can anyone recommend a hotel in Zermatt such that I can break the journey.

I may put it up as an event if others are interested.

I actually just did this in april or something last year. We looked into leaving super early and getting back late but there is a severe lack of trains out of St Moritz at that time so it didnt work. We ended up getting to Zermatt on the first train out of Geneva (if you arent going from Geneva it might work). we ended up staying over night in St Mortiz in the Jungendherbergen (youth hostel) there and it was fantastic, although a little pricey for a youth hostel. It was a great journey, but i do wish i had done it in a different season! Let me know if you want to know anything more.
