India! 15-27 Jan.

Hi everyone,

I just booked a trip to India from 15 to 27 January, pretty excited about it... now I need some advice. I am landing in Mumbai and plan to spend most time in Dehli and around, the golden triangle recommended by LP seems a classic route to go, but otherwise, I am also interested in Kerala and other parts. Any recommendation on "must-sees" for first-time visitors in India? Or anyone you know who would be travelling there at the same time (I'm only with myself for now). Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks Vivek for the advice. I went to apply for India visa on 3 Jan and was told that, since I hold a Chinese passport, my application has to be faxed back to the Indian embassy in Beijing, and the whole process might take up to 3 weeks!!!

Weird thing: the man at the consulate said that for Iranian, Afghan and Chinese nationals the visa has to be cleared by both the Indian side and home country's embassy.

Now 5 days away from my trip I still don't have the visa. And I won't know if I would have it until Friday right before the departure. Any one had similar visa experience?

Hi Ankai,

I use to travel to India and China regularly and Visa is always a nightmare, and takes always longer then anticipated.

I think is better to monitor the progress of your visa directly, going to the embassy here in Geneva, and if you have any contact is even better.

Aslo you may want to call the embassy in Beijing to make sure everything goes smoothly there.

If you wait the last day you really risk not to be able to go.

Good luck,

Giorgio

Thanks Glorgio, I went to the consulate at lunch time today, and the man said that the documents are sent to Beijing and there is nothing they can do... and I can only know by Friday if the visa is granted.

I don't mind calling the consulate every day to push it, but I'm not sure if that would help...
