Hi, will be doing a long weekend on the Italian part of Switzerland, does anyone have good recommendations for the Bellinzona-Locarno-Lugano areas? Any "can't be missed" warnings? Thanks in advance!

Ascona can`t be missed :)
There is also Swiss Miniature museum in Melide (15min drive from Lugano).
If you plan to stop for shopping, there is a huge outlet in Mendrisio called FoxTown (biggest outlet in Swiss).
In Lugano, Monte Bré mountain and Lugano lake.
In Bellizona you can see castles.
In Locarno area apart of visiting old town, you can also do bungee-jumping from Verzasca dike (James Bond movie `Golden Eye` was filmed here).

This may not be very timely now but .......
We really enjoyed a boat trip which took in the Isole de Brissago with its tropical gardens . It was very relaxing and there is a nice restaurant on there so we stayed a while. Make sure you go down to the 'beach' (I am sure this is not allowed ) and see the very strange tree root formations
If you want to go on the boat on Lago Maggiore all the way to Italy check the timetable and go early - I am sure it would be worth it , but we got there too late :)
and last but not least .. if you are driving, come back over the Simplon pass it is absolutely divine !
