Hi everyone, I am moving to London for work, and can't believe how difficult it is to find a flat that is a) unfurnished and b) accepts pets! Any tips anyone has, or if you know of anyone in London who is looking for a tenant, would be greatly appreciated!

You can look at TNT which is a free newspaper (or online) admittedly mostly for us Antipodeans. The other one is The Loot or www.loot.com. Honestly though most people find an apartment through real estate agents. You can just do a google search for some of the main agents then you put in your criteria, you can try Prime Location, Foxtons or Hamtpons or findaproperty.com It is not so common to rent apartments to people with pets. Unfurnished or part furnished shouldn't be too much hassle though. Good luck!

The best is to look throught real estate agencies. There are lots of scams and I wouldn't bother with ads really. We had a really bad experience when we rented from an ad from a paper. Having said that the agency wasn't very honest either and I had to threaten them with a court case to get my 'locked' deposit back.

Comparing England to Switzerland, estate agents actually do a lot more over there. I was shocked when I came here that I have to do the searching myself! If you go into an estate agent or letting agent in England, they will be able to tell you in detail about lots of properties that fit the criteria you want, and they will show you round at a convenient time.
I am totally bewildered here that you can't even find out how many bedrooms there are without going to visit, let alone get a floor plan!
A lot of letting agencies will have websites - your best bet is to work out which area of London you want and then find (through google or yell, for example) the local letting agents. Most of them will have the properties online.
Good luck!

There is no multiple listing service in the UK and finding rental homes and deciding on specific locations purely through internet research is still very unsatisfactory. Especially when you have a pet requirement!
Agents work for landlords who pay them large commissions! They do not generally cooperate with each other or share listings. Doing all the legwork needed to find suitable rental homes that are available can be a real nightmare.
It is wise to employ a professional home finding service to represent your interests and to provide independent advice and robust advocacy throughout the process. After all, landlords employ agents to represent their interests and get the best terms for them - you should do the same to make a wise choice of home that saves you money in the long run.

Sorry have to completely disagree - its extremely easy to find property in the UK. Have a look at
www.findaproperty.com
which is allied with pretty much all the estate agencies there are; if an estate agency isn't on it then they arent doing their job properly. The website is typically kept up to date and new places appear within hours of being established on the local estate agency website.

Extremely easy to find accommodation in London. If you can pay, you would find. My first port of recommendation would be www.gumtree.com
If you can dedicate like a good hour to trudging through it, you would come up with very good places. I found my apartments through there and it totally saves you the hassle of coming into contact with estate agents as most times you are dealing with people that own the flats.
There are ofcourse established estate agent who are 90% hassle free like Foxton and Hamptons. Problem is they usually have expensive flats and house in their portfolios.
Overall, extremely easy to find an accommodation.
Good luck

try http://www.spareroom.co.uk, they have a filter for pets allowed in "advance search options" > "other search options"
Good luck!

Hi there,
It can always be a hassle to find the Pet Friendly Properties to rent in the London Area. When I was searching for pet friendly apartments to move to London, having a hard time finding a rental home, I came across a firm Plazaestates property rental where they have selection of houses to let that allowed my pets. I think they might help you to find unfurnished pet friendly apartments in your budget too. However you can Google out some more sites as well. Focus your search according to your budget and make sure it’s worth spending the extra money.
