Trips within Thailand/Accomodation/Transport

Hello!

I am moving to Bangkok for 8 weeks (Mid Jan - Mid March)

I would loooove some travel advice on places to go, things to do.. Also on internal airlines? safe? Im a bit scared of small planes and small airlines. But the idea of a 12 hour bus ride across Thailand doesnt thrill me either.

I have a friend going as well, but will also do some travel alone.. is it safe? i need to stop watching "Locked Up Abroad" it has me afraid of being kidnapped everywhere.

So far Ao Nang looks incredible.

Long story short, apparantly.. im afraid of everything.  and I am going to Thailand.. so any reco's at all will be greatly appreciated =)

Particuarly - beaches, food, elephant tours, accomodation, not being kidnapped, not plunging into a ravine.

THANNNNK you=)

Hi, I'm Thai from Bangkok, glad to hear you will spend 8 weeks in Thailand. It is a safe country but like everywhere in the world , you still have to take care, might not be safe in the red light area, tuk tuk in Bangkok is fun but they ask for tourist priceand bring u to jewerly shop etc. , keep the passport in the safety box of hotel, carry along only the photocopie of your passport. Don't drink tap water. Dress code.

Follow up the actuel situation in Thailand, the flood is still on and it should end this month or early November. It has damaged a lot the agriculture, Ayuthaya ancient capital city is under the water :( . Jan - Mar. perfect time to visit the country, you will have only sunshine :)

Domestic airline : Bangkokairway, NokAir, Airasia and Thai Airways .. all well known airlines.

Train : Hualampong station Bangkok, not possible to buy online but locally.

I will get back to you again

Bye for now

Thailand is super safe, do not worry at all.  Basic common sense about your satefy will ensure you avoid some of the one-off stories that you may have heard about.  Thailand is one of the most western friendly asian countries, westerners have been visting and vacationing there for years, so it's very western friendly.  The Thai people though will some times try to take you for a ride on prices, like many countries, some prices are negotiable, it depends on what you're buying and where you're buying it.

Internal airlines are totally safe and the best way to go if you want to hop around while in Thailand, much better to take a flight than a 12 hour train ride.

There is no danger of being kidnapped there that I am ware of, however, when traveling alone you need to exercise a little bit of extra precautions but this goes for every country including w. europe.   For hotels, I recommend guest houses, you can look many up on hostelbooker.com and the other hostel sites on the web, most guest houses provide private rooms with a full bathroom in the room.  guesthouses are cool, you get to meet other travelers and get to mingle a bit more with the locals.

What else can I say, food is great, lotsa cold beer wherever you go, and it's culturally very interesting.  Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I am going back myself for the 3rd time December 15th.

cheers
